About

Our college, Dr. Patangrao Kadam Mahavidyalaya, was established on 16th September, 1985. This college imparts education in the faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, Junior College and H.S.C. vocational. It is a matter of pleasure and pride that the NAAC committee accredited it a “B++” grade, in January 2004 and “A” in January 2013. The college reaccredited in 2018 with B++ grade (CGPA-2.96). We have also received the Maharashtra State Award for our substantial work through N.S.S. Eight Career Oriented Courses are run by the college since 2006, in which almost all students take admission, taking advantage of horizontal mobility.

Affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur, the college operates at undergraduate, post graduate and doctorate levels; keeping a student centric approach, attempting to fulfill the vision, mission, goals and objectives of the college. The ultimate aim is to make students employable through holistic education and skill development, keeping the motto of the institute in sight, “Transformation through dynamic education”. Collaborations and MOUs with different academic institutes and education related firms, organization of various activities in their collaboration, has helped providing a learning experience to students, related to social issues, environmental awareness and problem solving skills. Organization of various subject related events such as seminars, workshops and conferences, has proved beneficial for students.

Our institute has developed an eco-system to deliver, decipher and enhance knowledge and research culture. The basic objective is to inspire students and motivate teachers for innovative ideas. Through Research Committee, college monitors and promotes all research activities in college. The college has set up a common facility center, enriched with a number of research instruments. Departmental laboratories are equipped with sophisticated instruments; where all stake holders have full time access. Teachers have very good scientific publications in National and International journals of high repute. Organization of two INSPIRE Internship Programs, to attract the junior college students to various areas of research and study, in Science, has been one of the significant achievements of the college. College always tries to bridge the gap between rural and urban culture, by running various extension activities through different schemes like NSS, Science Association, Ladies Association and Lead College, which play a significant role in handling social issues and in holistic development of students.

Alumni Association plays an important role in college development, providing support in various students and society beneficial aspects. Providing facilities of education and empowerment to rural students is a major objective of college, for facing global challenges.

Institution promotes gender equity through various programs. Environmental consciousness and sustainability is practiced through management of all types of waste. Energy recycling is practiced through rain water harvesting, water recycling, use of LED bulbs and solar lamps. Environment care is taken through green landscaping, use of bicycles and public transport systems.

Advocating of plastic free campus, spit free campus and paperless office is undertaken.

Significant features of the college

  • College is a landmark in suburban area of Sangliwadi, with well-established and well equipped infrastructure, with two big open air stages.
  • College is equipped with Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Microbiology, Zoology, Botany and Computer laboratories, Auditorium, Conference Hall, Library, Administrative Office, NAAC, NSS and Examination Cells.
  • College has well qualified and well experienced teaching staff.
  • Departments of Chemistry and Microbiology have been recognized for research by Shivaji University, Kolhapur while Microbiology and Physics by Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune.
  • College has M.Sc. Analytical Chemistry course, running at full capacity.
  • College has a well-developed research culture; teaching faculty with a good number of research papers, to their credit. Two major and six minor research projects were undertaken by the faculty during last five years. Seven of the teachers are Ph.D.; six are research guides while six are pursuing Ph.D.
  • Departments have their own collection of CDs as teaching aids. Screening films of academic, social and global relevance is a regular feature.
  • College is equipped with more than 80 computers, with access to internet facilities and WiFi.
  • College has its own website for enhancing networking and dissemination of information to students, parents, stakeholders and others.
  • IQAC was established in 2004 and has proved to be an effective tool in sustaining and enhancing quality.
  • College has signed various MOUs associating itself with various laboratories, industries and NGOs, facilitating students.
  • Formal and informal feedback from students helps teachers improving quality of teaching and interaction. Feedback from Alumni helps in introspecting and implementing suggestions from time to time.

  • Principal is Member of Senate and Academic Council of Shivaji University, Kolhapur and President of Principal Forum, Sangli district.
  • College is a proud winner of Best Program Officer and Best College awards of NSS of Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
  • The percentage of marks of students while leaving college, is remarkably high, than that at their entry.
  • College has been granted “Lead College” status for five years, leading ten colleges in Sangli district, organizing quality initiatives.
  • College was one amongst six colleges from Shivaji University, Kolhapur, shortlisted to appear for presentation at UGC, New Delhi, for CPE status.
  • On 2nd October 2016, college appeared for presentation at KIIT University, Bhuvaneshwar, for DIST- FIST status.
  • College appeared in the magazine “Careers 360”, titled India’s Best Colleges (Arts, Science and Commerce) in 2016, getting 62nd rank, amongst participated colleges in India.
  • College has faced NIRF accreditation in 2017 and was placed in rank band of 101 to 150 amongst the entrants.
  • Many of the college students rank high in the merit list of examinations of Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
  • Many students have qualified in M.P.S.C., NET and SET examinations, owing to the guidance by IQAC and Competitive examination guidance cell.
  • College has a strong sports background; bringing accolades to the college. Training students in Rowing, Fencing, Rope gymnastics, Karate is a special feature of college.
  • Students’ participation in Zonal, University, State, National level competitions and “Bharatiyam” festival of the parent institute, has fetched many prizes, through cultural activities department.
